Temple of Potato

Sazmanab presents an exhibition by Bahar Sabet.
Reflecting on the work Darkling Beetle, Bahar Sabet draws on the life cycle of the mealworm, which passes through four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult beetle. Mealworms and darkling beetles feed on cereals and plant sap and exist within instinctive systems of cooperation. In contrast, humans are described as convention-making beings who produce culture through systems of signs and meaning.
Sabet considers the encounter between instinctive production and cultural intervention, proposing a manufacturing structure formed unconsciously under partially conscious control. Within natural systems, the possibility of incidence and contingency remains present, shaping the relationship between living organisms, time, and constructed environments.
Bahar Sabet was born in Tehran in 1988. She studied Graphic Design in high school and received a BA in Photography from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran. Since 2005, she has participated in projects including Tehran Photo and Herfe:Honarmand quarterly, and has exhibited video and photographic works in Tehran. Based in Tehran, Sabet avoids fixed professional tools and established media, working instead with natural cycles of living beings and time to produce forms that resist formal aesthetic conventions.
