Art History

For the first presentation of her performance Art History in Iran, following presentations at the Ricard Foundation in Paris and Schaufenster in Sélestat, Sazmanab artist-in-residence Julie Vayssière works through her usual method of asking questions of those who live and work in her immediate environment. The performance explores the line between everyday life and art. Using simple forms, Art History seeks to identify and articulate the moments from which an artistic vocation can emerge. The performance is realised by Atiyeh Torabi and Erfan Nazaryanpour.
Julie Vayssière was born in 1979 in Toulouse, France. She lives and works in Paris. Her practice includes photography, video, and text drawn from streets, shop windows, websites, and exchanges with friends and family. She works with readily available materials, favouring ordinary and undramatised gestures. Vayssière’s work mirrors everyday surroundings, combining marketing language with conceptual processes, advertisements with intimate interviews, and reconfiguring forms of minimalist poetry.
The visit of Julie Vayssière to Tehran is made possible with the support of Institut Français.
