Beginnings of Conversations

How does a conversation shift from an informal encounter into a public moment?
This evening proposes a public event bringing together artists, designers, and students from the Dutch Art Institute and Werkplaats Typografie in conversation with Iranian artists living both in Tehran and abroad. The event forms the second step in a developing series of conversations that begin in Tehran.
The first step takes place a few days earlier as a non-public working gathering at Sazmanab, where participants discuss keywords and fragments of thought in small groups. These keywords emerge from shared discussions and range from oikopolitics, or the politics of the household, to democratisation, nationality, immigration, asylum seeking, citizenship, and questions of insider and outsider positions. As these conversations move into public exposure, the evening asks what remains informal and what is transformed.
Rather than offering definitive answers, the event proposes points of entry and explores different forms through which informal exchanges may shift when shared with a broader public.
