Artist Talk: Mohammadreza Mirzaei

Sazmanab

On the occasion of his recent exhibition at O Gallery, Mohammadreza Mirzaei speaks about his practice, with a focus on his recently published photobook and his two latest exhibitions at O Gallery and No.6 Gallery in Tehran.

The two exhibitions, titled The New Photographs and The Newer Photographs, present images taken in Iran and abroad, primarily in public spaces, and reflect Mirzaei’s ongoing engagement with irony, repetition, and photographic authorship.

The talk takes a closer look at Mirzaei’s recent book Here Comes the Sun, published by the University of Pennsylvania. The book is designed by Italian graphic designer Filippo Nostri and includes twenty-one photographs, an article by Mirzaei, and a text by curator Carlos Basualdo.

Mohammadreza Mirzaei was born in 1986 and is an Iranian photographer and writer based in Tehran. He is the founder and editor of Dide Magazine, an online platform dedicated to contemporary Iranian photography. Mirzaei served as a juror for the International Photobook Award in 2011. He holds an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and teaches Photography and History of Art at the Professional Photography Institute in Tehran.
