Still Lives and Selected Acts

Still Lives and Selected Acts is a video exhibition co-curated by Sohrab Kashani and Sandra Skurvida at Dastan’s Basement in Tehran. The exhibition reflects on states of being in Iran, where hopeful anticipation coexists with societal tension and deep-seated stagnation.
In Still Lives, traces of the recent past and glimmers of the near future are conveyed through images of nature and inner states, recalling the tradition of still life. Inanimate objects and commonplace scenes stand in for facts and events, opening a space for recognition and negotiation of meanings that shape everyday life.
The exhibition features video works by Chupan Atashi, Farid Jafari Samarghandi, Samira Eskandarfar, Farhad Kalantary, Simin Keramati, Nosrat Nosratian, Jinoos Taghizadeh, and Behzad Nejadghanbar.
Venue: Dastan’s Basement [Tehran]
