Pejman Foundation: The Room

An evening of presentation and video screening examined alternative forms of space-making through the practices of Sazmanab and Rabt, two artist-run initiatives rooted in Iran, focusing on the often invisible labor, strategies, and collective infrastructures that sustain such spaces. Presented by Sohrab Kashani, the program combined a talk reflecting on the histories, curatorial approaches, and organizational challenges of these platforms with a screening of video works by Iranian artists from Iran and the diaspora, curated from the Sazmanab Video Library. Alongside the event, selected publications and materials from the Sazmanab Digital Archive were made accessible at Casco’s library in dialogue with the exhibition Hidden Arts: What do we make when no one sees us.

The Room: First Phase is the inaugural online exhibition of The Room, presenting 27 video works from the Sazmanab Video Library, streamed one per day for 24 hours on Pejman Foundation’s website.

Six video works curated by Joseph Del Pesco and Sohrab Kashani explore voice-over as a space for interpretation and reflection, pairing artists from Iran and the United States to examine memory, language, and poetic narration across image and sound.

Shattered Frames foregrounds experimental video as a lens through which artists articulate fractured realities, lived contradictions, and subjective experiences within contemporary Iran.

Still Lives and Selected Acts brings together video works that use stillness, objects, and everyday scenes to register the suspended tensions and quiet negotiations of life in contemporary Iran.

SubTehran: Subjective Truth from Iran brings together artists working across photography, video, and conceptual practices to foreground personal, fragmented, and subjective narratives that complicate dominant representations of contemporary Iran.

Lost and Found in Iran presents contemporary Iranian video as a site of searching, where fragments of lived experience surface through acts of looking, recording, and remembering.

The 1st Tehran Annual Digital Art Exhibition presents a curated selection of video works from the Sazmanab Video Library, highlighting early articulations of digital and time-based practices in contemporary Iranian art.

Paradoxes in Video brings together international video works that blur documentary and performance, staging uncertainty as a space where fiction, reality, and perception continually collide.
