How to run an art space in Iran

An evening of presentation and video screening explored alternative forms of space-making through the activities of Sazmanab and Rabt, two artist-run initiatives rooted in Iran. The event focused on how these platforms operated through exhibitions, workshops, archiving, residencies, and long-term collaborative practices, foregrounding the often unseen labor, strategies, and workarounds that sustained them.
Presented by Sohrab Kashani, the program began with a talk reflecting on the histories of Sazmanab and Rabt and their curatorial and organizational challenges, in dialogue with the themes of Hidden Arts: What do we make when no one sees us. This was followed by a screening of video works by Iranian artists from Iran and the diaspora, curated from the Sazmanab Video Library.
Alongside the live program, selected publications from Sazmanab’s library and fragments from the Sazmanab Digital Archive, including recordings of past talks, gatherings, and scanned materials, were made accessible in Casco’s library for the duration of the Hidden Arts exhibition.
