ArteZine C+ Issue Launch

Independent Curators International (ICI)

This public program was presented by ArteEast in collaboration with Independent Curators International on the occasion of the launch of the Spring 2012 issue of ArteZine. Building on debates following the removal of work at the 2011 Sharjah Biennial, the discussion addressed censorship not only as suppression but as a condition that can generate new artistic strategies within restricted environments. Drawing from the ArteZine issue C+, guest edited by Sandra Skurvida, the event explored questions of value, power, and cultural context through a transnational lens. The panel featured writer and curator Media Farzin and scholar Negar Mottahedeh, with a response by Brian Kuan Wood, and was moderated by Barrak Alzaid and Sandra Skurvida. Contributions to the issue included texts and projects by Media Farzin, Barbad Golshiri, Sohrab Kashani, Sohrab Mahdavi, Negar Mottahedeh, Anahita Razmi, Slavs and Tatars, Katayoun Vaziri, and Kaelen Wilson-Goldie.
