Siting Performance

A two-day workshop with Richard Schechner, where artists, writers, and performers in Tehran and New York discusses contemporary performance art practices, new media, and citizenship. The workshop is led by Richard Schechner, with Ava Ansari, Bavand Behpoor, and Molly Kleiman, and organised by The Back Room.
Conducted via digital technology, the workshop creates a shared space for dialogue between participants in Tehran and New York, focusing on contemporary performance practices, questions of citizenship, and the role of new media. The aim is to foster long-term partnerships and develop collaborative projects across the two cities.
The sessions addresses questions such as: What is the relationship between performance and citizenship? How can performance enact and critique strategies for social change? How can digital technologies be used not simply to transmit information, but to facilitate artistic collaboration and production? How can re-performance and distributed performance enable artists to speak in their own voices? How might these conversations evolve into future collaborations?
