Nomadic Streaming at Art Basel

aether9
Sazmanab and online

A free-form broadcasting experiment takes place on June 16, 2010, with aethernauts transmitting live from Art Basel, the International Art Fair in Basel, as well as from other locations around the world, including Tehran and Sydney.

aether9 is a collaborative art project exploring real-time video transmission. Initiated in May 2007 during a workshop at the Mapping Festival in Geneva, the project is developed by an international group of visual artists and collectives working across different locations and communicating exclusively via the Internet. aether9 operates as a framework for networked video and audio performance and for the collective development of dramaturgical rules specific to online modes of communication.

The platform functions as an open system, allowing participants with varying levels of technical experience to transmit imagery in real time and interact through a loosely structured narrative performance. The project investigates questions of presence and absence, remote and local relations, identity, and intimacy within electronic space.

During the eight hours of live transmission, visitors are able to join the original feed from Tehran or watch streams from other locations projected onto one of Sazmanab’s walls. The streaming is organised by aether9 in collaboration with Dock18 and Sazmanab.

Participating aethernauts include Manuel Schmalstieg, Mari KeskiKorsu, Christian Cruz, Franck Ancel, Sohrab Kashani and Sazmanab, and Vinny Bhagat.
