Mise en abyme operates as a stand-in for the void: a figure that opens subjective fissures within nation-states and performatively destabilizes positions of power. The shifting “I”s foreground the potential for arousal, rupture, and upheaval.

The program brings together works shaped by the aporias of recent social, political, and ideological insurrections around the world, with specific reflections on Iran. These works do not resolve contradiction but instead linger within it, activating moments of instability, reflection, and reorientation.
