Workshop on interactive multimedia conducted by Frederick Rodrigues

In this workshop, participants explore how to create rich interactive multimedia tools for performance. Different approaches and their respective advantages and limitations are discussed, including Isadora, Max/MSP, Arduino, and openFrameworks. Topics include tracking and OpenCV, Arduino, DMX, MIDI, OSC, OpenGL, communication between software and hardware, interface design, and strategies for making multiple hardware and software systems communicate with one another. The workshop is open to both beginners and more advanced users.

The workshop runs over two days. The first day focuses on an introduction to tools and methodologies, providing participants with the basics needed to begin working with technology in performance and installation contexts, from both artistic and practical perspectives. The second day is dedicated to addressing questions that arise from hands-on experimentation and practical application.

Frederick Rodrigues is an Australian artist specialising in collaborative performance with technology. He has worked with artists internationally on projects ranging from installations and interactive music to theatre, dance, and performance. His work has been presented in Rio de Janeiro, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Sydney, Perth, Paris, and many other locations, across galleries, theatres, town halls, and private spaces. Frederick is currently based in Amsterdam and works full time with the Dutch multimedia performance group PIPS:lab, where he develops tools for performance and mass audience interaction.
