flüchtig

Katharina Stadler
Sazmanab

The project flüchtig [volatile / fugacious] explicitly follows the paths taken by previous visiting artists and curators on site. During a two-week residency at Sazmanab in Tehran, Katharina Stadler walks these paths in search of previously noted moments of inspiration and asks the obvious questions on the spot. Rather than attempting to leave a new trail, she deliberately looks at her temporary surroundings through the traces left by others. Despite, and because of, this seemingly pre-outlined course, a diffusion and volatility of the moment characterizes each residency.

This volatile character is made tangible through Polaroid photographs and sound recordings. The exhibition aims to trigger a discussion around possible perceptions, advantages, and superficialities of residential visits within foreign art platforms.

Katharina Stadler is a Vienna-born conceptual artist, curator, and founder of Concept and Theory – Tbilisi. She studies Music, Theater, and Cultural Communication at Humboldt University in Berlin, graduating with a thesis on the interconnection and opposition of voice and silence as worship in Augustine’s writings. Since 2010, she is based in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she runs the Informal Master Programs at the Center of Contemporary Art from 2011 to 2013. Since 2011, she also teaches art and visual anthropology students and conducts workshops in different locations.

The visit of Katharina Stadler to Tehran is made possible through the generous support of the Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur (BMUKK).
